The celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union hold significant historical and social importance. Two decades ago, in 2004, Poland, along with nine other countries, joined the European community, marking one of the most pivotal events in modern European history. Joining the Union opened up new economic, political, and social opportunities, influencing the development of the country and its citizens. This anniversary is not only an occasion for celebration but also for reflection on what it means to belong to the European Union. Over these 20 years, Poland has integrated with other member states, benefiting from the common market, European funds, and the ability to freely move and work in various parts of Europe. It is also a time to remind the younger generation of the values that underpin the European Union – democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights.

Raising European awareness among young people is a crucial goal, as they will shape the future of Europe. Young people should know the history of European integration, its values, and the benefits of being part of this community. Education about the Union helps build a sense of belonging to a larger community, which is the foundation of a stable and united Europe. In the context of the anniversary, it is also important to understand the challenges facing the European Union, such as climate change, migration, and digitalization. Youth should be aware of the role they can play in shaping European policy through active participation in civic and democratic initiatives. The celebrations of this anniversary are an excellent opportunity to emphasize the importance of solidarity, international cooperation, and joint actions for a better future. It is a time to look back at achievements and progress and to look forward with hope and commitment to building a strong, united, and aware Europe.
